Ookpik Waltz – Go here to see what an Ookpik is. ookpikWaltzLeadSheet for the lead sheet.
Here is a great performance by Jay Ungar (who wrote Ashokan Farewell).
Here is a performance by Frankie Rodgers, who wrote the Ookpik Waltz. Interestingly, the tune became so popular in its home province of British Columbia that it spread from there and became a folk tune in its own right and now there are several versions of it. The lead sheet is more like the Jay Ungar version, which is how the tune is often played south of Canada.
This is a good recording of El Canoero with the words that we’ll use. The response words will be: “mi playerita” and “se va a matar” (which still sounds like se va matá). The full lyrics we’ll use are here: https://www.musixmatch.com/es/letras/Los-Warahuaco/El-Canoero
