Folk and World Music Workshop for High School Directors and Students

A registration link is provided below the following information.

SIUE World Music Ensemble and KDHX Folk School are collaborating in a Folk and World Music Ensemble Workshop and it is geared for you!

When?

Friday, May 11, 2018. The workshop begins at 9:30 am and there will a free concert the same evening at 7:00 pm.

Purpose

The purpose of the workshop is to help directors and their students see how achievable such an ensemble is and to offer pedagogical information, advice for getting started and hands on experience for both director and student.

What if I don’t have any prior folk music or world music experience?

Don’t worry! You will be with experienced instructors who can help you get started and answer your questions.

What about instruments?

Almost any portable instrument is welcome and we especially encourage instruments that lend themselves well to folk ensembles even if it’s a second instrument for a student. There will be a limited number of instruments available to borrow on the day of the workshop if a participant would like to try something new. You will have an opportunity to request one on your workshop registration form.

Ensembles

Students will be placed in small ensembles where they will work with experienced musicians to learn to put together tunes for a performance, ad lib and interact with other ensemble members.

Free Performance on The Stage at KDHX!

Following the day’s activities, workshop participants will perform together with the instructors and the SIUE World Music Ensemble on The Stage at KDHX! The concert is free and families and friends are welcome.

Cost and Meals

There is no cost for the workshop or concert. Lunch is provided free of charge to all participants.

This workshop is funded through a special grant obtained from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Targeted Funding Initiative.
